ORNAMENT OF PRIDE...:

Of all the women, Jezebel was perhaps the most proud. "She painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window" (II Kgs 9:30). She could see that Jehu was furiously executing God's judgment on the house of Ahab. What pride and audacity to look out at him like that!

"Let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but... the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit" (I Pet 3:3,4). Yes, we cannot deny the fact that in the light of the Word of God, women who adorn themselves or beautify themselves do not have a meek spirit. Whenever people of God humbled themselves before God in the Old Testament we see them stripping themselves of their ornaments (See Gen 35:4 ; Exo 33:4).

Jezebel's arrogance earned her a most cursed death - "They threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot... Go, see this cursed women, and bury her... but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands" (II Kgs 9:33, 34). Elijah's words, "Dogs shall eat Jezebel," came true.

Let us put off all out outward adorning and walk humbly with our God - adorning ourselves "in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety... appropriate for women who profess godliness."
